how to cure tinnitusWondering how to cure tinnitus?

Millions of other tinnitus patients are eager to know the answer too. However, patients are often met with depressing replies from doctors including “there is no cure to tinnitus” or “you will have to live with it”.

Well, you do not have to live with it. Why settle for less when it has been shown that tinnitus symptoms can be reduced or even eliminated by taking a holistic approach in your treatment plan? In this page, I will be sharing with you some tips on how to cure tinnitus by taking a holistic and natural approach.

10 Tips on How to Cure Tinnitus:

1. Well-balanced diet rich in vitamins

In general, a nutritious and well-balanced diet would be good in boosting your immunity and reducing your stress level. A Mediterranean diet, rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans and nuts, is highly recommended. Fish and poultry are recommended at least twice a week while red meat should be limited to few times a month. Healthy fats, such as olive oil, should be used instead of butter.

Your intake of salt, sugar, trans-fats and caffeine should also be reduced as they tend to increase the severity of tinnitus symptoms.

Deficiency in essential vitamins and minerals can also cause auditory nerve damage. So, be sure to have sufficient intake of vitamin A, vitamin D, iron, zinc and manganese.

2. Regular Exercise

Regular exercise can help to reduce stress, boost your blood circulation and improve your overall health so you will be in a better position to fight against tinnitus.

3. Detoxification

Tinnitus can be a result of a body system too clogged up with toxins. A detox program can help you clear the accumulated toxins from your body and allow your vital organs to re-generate. Your body system will then be more effective in self-healing and curing infections and disorders. This includes permanently curing clogged sinus or ear infections.

Detoxification also results in improved mental clarity and freedom from negative thoughts and feelings, which are keys to battling against tinnitus.

4. Getting sufficient sleep

Be sure to get sufficient good quality sleep so that your body and mind is able to rest and rejuvenate.

Suggestion: If you are having problems sleeping due to the constant noise in your ears, you may consider masking techniques such as the use of white noise.

5. Managing the stress and anxiety in your life

It has been found that emotional distress in varying degrees and the severity of tinnitus often go hand in hand. Stress can weaken your immunity and also worsen your tinnitus symptoms.

Hence, it is vital that you identify the stressors in your life (whether it is directly related to tinnitus or not) and try to manage your stress and anger with the use of relaxation techniques, such as mediation, aromatherapy and yoga.

6. Finding natural herbal remedies that work for you

Herbs have been used for centuries to cure ailments, so it’s not wrong if you are wondering how to cure tinnitus using herbal remedies. However, always be careful when trying to use herbs. Always seek a certified herbalist for long-term treatment and inform your doctor as the herbs used might interact with certain medications.

One of the most popular herbal supplements is Ginkgo Biloba, which is often available in tablet or extracts. Other herbs include coffee cruda, goldenseal hydrastus and black cohas. Different herbs should be used depending on the cause of your tinnitus.

7. Embark on rehabilitation programs such as Hypnotherapy, Tinnitus Retraining Therapy, Cognitive behavioral therapy, Neuronomics and Biofeedback and stress management

Hypnotherapy and Tinnitus Retraining Therapy have been proven to be effective in reducing or even eliminating the tinnitus symptoms, as well as reducing the stress and anxiety experienced by the sufferers due to the condition. However, it is important that you engaged a certified therapist experienced in tinnitus treatment.

8. Eliminate environment toxins, including cigarette smoke and food additives

Take an active role to reduce or eliminate toxins around you as some of them could be inducing tinnitus symptoms. For example, avoid heating up food in plastic containers, reduce intake of growth-hormone containing meat by going for free-range options and selecting organic fruits and vegetables to avoid intake of pesticides.

9. Reducing the harmful impact of loud noises by taking the necessary ear protection

10. Alternative treatments

You may also want to consider including alternative treatment in your program. Common alternative treatments that are found to help patients the most include homeopathy, acupuncture and yoga.

BIG TIP: Give yourself time for the treatment plan to work.

Excellent article! Just wondering, other than white noise, do you know of any other methods to help me sleep better?

    • Yohannes says:

Hi Brenda, yes there are many methods and white noise is one of the most effective ones. You may want to try using more pillows to raise your head level while you sleep. It can reduce your ear canal congestion.

Also, establish a fixed sleeping routine and avoid coffee or tea before bed. Get sufficient rest and relax yourself.

  2. Richard Lopez says:

Hello Yohannes. Thanks for the great info! How do you recommend us to ensure that we are taking in enough of the essential vitamins and minerals? Are health supplements the way to go?

    • Yohannes says:

Hi Richard, its not that difficult to ensure that you are taking in sufficient amounts of the essential vitamins and minerals if you pay attention to what you eat and make sure that you eat a balanced diet. Natural sources of vitamin A include fresh green vegetables, cod liver oil, milk, butter; sources of Vitamin D include sunlight (preferably in the morning), cold liver oil, egg yolk; sources of iron: red meat, chicken, turkey, liver, oysters; sources Zinc include spinach, oysters, pumpkin seeds, eggs, milk, beans; sources of Manganese include Bananas, celery, cereals, green leafy vegetables, beans, nuts and whole grains.

So you see, you can obtain most essential vitamins and minerals from natural food sources without necessarily depending on supplements. Personally, i would choose to go for natural food sources. Supplements could be more convenient but you will need to take note of the dosages, for example, taking too much manganese can also be dangerous. 4. Archer Cardella says:

Tinnitus is seen a lot more in elderly people than adults.
Aside from their age, elderly people happen to be vulnerable to encountering a degeneration
of their body systems, especially their senses. Chances are they already have an altered smell
and taste, could have hearing problems, or might
    have vision issues.
